San Diego, USA -This intimate and innovative dance piece from San Diego’s DISCO RIOT is in two parts that can be found HERE and HERE. . From the submission: “currentis an examination of global systems of oppression, the interconnected nature of environmental and social justice, freedom of movement, and the possibility of embodied expression as a tool for cultivating resilience.”
“Carry On!”
Philadelphia, USA - Asya Zlatina, Artistic Director of Artist House, began the first rehearsal of this piece to develop movement/material for building a larger work for a spring showcase as well as the Fringe Festival. She worked with the dancers to discuss where they were in life, how they felt and what message they wanted to portray. During rehearsal, they played around with a title. They were ready to meet for a second rehearsal, when suddenly they were all shut down because of COVID-19.
“The Quarry Project”
Vernont, USA -The Quarry Project is a site-specific dance/theatre piece made for the Wells Lamson quarry in Websterville, Vermont, one of the country’s oldest, deepest granite quarries, closed in 1986 and now flooded. The work on this dance piece began in 2016, was slated to be performed in August 2020 and is now postponed a year.

Boulder, USA - “Proof that i live/d" is a dance/video-art work-in-progress that directly responds to COVID-19 social distancing measures. Having been in the process of crafting and contributing to three performances that were cancelled/postponed due to the virus's impact on social gatherings, dancer rick h m considers the possibilities of dance/video-art within the confines of one's living room.
Heidi Duckler Dance: “Underway”
Los Angeles , USA -The Heidi Duckler Dance performance of “Underway,” set under the historical Los Angeles 7th Street Bridge and based on a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke, was cancelled because of the pandemic. They have attempted to put together an impression of the performance with photos and an interview with one of their dancers. You can also see a number of their thrilling performances on their website
“Rebirth of the Rose”
Austin, USA -With contemporary dance, spanish guitar and singing, Corps Multiple offers a beautiful, delicate and symbolic performance around the power of nature, exploring the complex link between human and nature. “Rebirth of the Rose” was performed last at The VORTEX in Austin, TX, as part of Corps Multiple's monthly performance residency. The next two dates in April got cancelled due to the pandemic.
“Hand at the Museum”
Philadelphia, USA - For the past seven years, collaborators Sean Thomas Boyt and Andy Thierauf have been creating work that spans a variety of genres by using dance and percussion as mediums for engaging performance art. “Hand at the Museum” is a quarantined version of a percussion and dance duet set for performance on April 3rd at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia.
Ebb/Flow Collective’s “Siren’s Last Song”
Oakland, USA - Ebb/Flow Collective’s performance on March 15 was canceled due to Covid-19. The company feels passionately about telling truths that are hard to face. “Siren’s Last Song” explores the environmental impact of plastics on our oceans. Set designs based on images of water and micro-plastics will filter through the viewer's consciousness.
Oklahoma City Ballet’s Future Voices Choreographic Showcase
Oklahoma, USA - Oklahoma City Ballet’s Future Voice’s Choreographic Showcase is a fun and creative showcase of the choreographic works of company members and industry professionals. This particular piece was choreographed by Robyn Pasternak with just under 6 hours of studio time! Check out how much hard work the choreographer and dancers put into this piece.

to be alone together
Boston, USA - Rebecca Lang and I were supposed to premier our newest work, "to be alone together" at the Boston Center of the Arts in "…that's what she said" by Lady BOS Productions. We have been working on this piece since October and actively got feedback from different communities- informally and in multiple showings. We were going to have at least one Thursday performance but the BCA decided to close, 30 minutes before curtain for the COVID-19 concerns. We were supposed to perform 4 times. March 12 -15, 2020.

Utica Dance, New York
I closed Utica Dance school on Thursday, 3/12/2020 and soon discovered that the first case of Covid-19 in upstate New York was just miles from us. Our students, like all children and adults were either in denial or reeling from the news. Anxious to maintain to the closeness and optimism I sent out the first assignment via text and scheduled our first virtual class for Saturday. Here is the assignment and photo of our first meeting.
