“proof that i live/d”

Boulder, USA - Currently based in Colorado and originally from Hawaii, rick h m (they/them)is an anti-disciplinary artist/writer and performance theorist. Through written and embodied forms of creative research, rick calls for a dismantling the systems that enforce control over our abilities to liberate our social bodies. “Proof that i live/d" is a dance/video-art work-in-progress that directly responds to COVID-19 social distancing measures. Having been in the process of crafting and contributing to three performances that were cancelled/postponed due to the virus's impact on social gatherings, rick considers the possibilities of dance/video-art within the confines of one's living room. Utilizing improvisational dance and lo-fi greenscreens, rick h m attempts to duet with past selves and landscapes, contrasting the liveness of inhabiting the outdoors with the flatness of staying inside. The artist induces the viewer into a trance-like state through ruminating on memory, placelessness, and longings for a futurity beyond this historical moment.
