From the Artist: Laura loves writing fantastical and comedic stories with diverse casts of characters, and creating art with bright and cheerful colors. The graphic novels are informed by Laura's experiences as an immigrant and her friendships with people from different cultures. General themes of the comics and scripts are those of found family, friendship and how people aren't defined by the places they come from. The comics are a blend of traditional pencil drawing and digital art with a variety of softwares.
Bio from the Artist: Laura Rivera was born and raised in the Sonoran desert where she started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil. This Mexican young lady won a scholarship to study Digital Arts: Film Animation in Arizona, where she directed many short films and animated a short video. After graduation, she went on to share her knowledge as a middle school art teacher in Mexico for four years.
During this period, she also taught character design and writing panels at conventions such as Phoenix Comic Con, won awards in costuming and started writing/drawing her web- comic “1126”, which ended in August 2020, among other one shot comics.
One of her scripts awarded her a scholarship for Vancouver Film School’s Writing for Film and Television program, where she produced more short films. Eventually she also joined the Classical Animation program and graduated with honors. Laura now works as a freelance artist and writer with credits in Netflix’s “Club de Cuervos” and Channel Frederator’s “101 Facts About”. She also teaches drawing, painting, comics and animation at the Richmond Art Center and works as a daycare assistant while writing and illustrating her new graphic novel project “Ninja X”. Unfortunately the launch events for Ninja X Volume 2 were delayed due to the pandemic but the books can still be found online.
