Artist Liza Merkalova
When Liza’s work arrived in my inbox, I was FLOORED. She paints with incredible power, intricacy, and deep, complicated emotion. She is an established and profound artist, and we are really lucky to have her. You can see much more of her work on the site here, or check out her various platforms:
Musician Charlie Rauh - photo by Alice Teeple
Charlie is that mixture of brilliantly talented and supremely nice that makes you pretty confident that he’s going to be a big deal. After posting his music, I felt like it was maybe a bit of a reach to ask him to participate in this project, but he wrote right back with a big huge open heart and mind! Check out his work in the fest, as well as:

In conversations with both Liza and Charlie, we decided on a process that involved Liza sending Charlie an existing painting of hers, which he used as inspiration to compose new guitar music. This music has been sent back to Liza, who is using it as inspiration to create a new painting. I have a feeling that this work will be really, really beautiful.
