Tadhi Alawi

Tadhi Alawi

Dancer Tadhi Alawi has been one of the most viewed artists on The Social Distancing Festival. His dance piece was an early submission, and one that has caught the eye of festival-goers and media alike; it’s been included in coverage by the BBC, CBC, L.A. Weekly, and more.

You can see Tadhi’s amazing dance piece Body vs Mouth here. Also, here is his Facebook, website, and Instagram!

For this project, I paired him with musical theatre creators and musicians Anika Johnson, Barbara Johnston, and Suzy Wilde. A powerhouse team in Toronto, these three are known for their incredible voices, writing, and composing skills. Their work crosses genre and speaks to people in a really profound way.

After messaging with one another, Johnson, Johnston, and Wilde emailed Tadhi a piece that they had written; a song about relationships and loss that really spoke to Tadhi. From there, he started planning and dancing. The resulting dance video will be posted right here and I CANNOT WAIT.

I’ve heard the song. Trust me. It’s a bop and a half.
