“They Can’t Take That Away From Me” - Crazy for You (Gershwin)

Winnipeg, CANADA- This post was submitted by Chase Winnicky, an actor in Winnipeg, Manitoba who was about to begin rehearsals for the role of Bobby Child in “Crazy for You: In Concert” with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

This is the only stand alone song Bobby has in the show, and it’s always been one of my favourite tunes. This youtube karaoke track is no symphony, and my wall doesn’t compare to Jade Repeta (our Polly Baker) as a scene partner lol, but I just wanted to sing this song for an audience. I always dreamed of revisiting this role professionally in my career (I played Bobby in high school) and singing with a symphony, and with this production I was getting to cross both of those things off of my bucket list. So, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t heartbroken to see these two dreams coming true slip right through my fingers before they even began. We were scheduled to run April 17-19 at the Centennial Concert Hall, and we were cancelled this past Monday (2 weeks before rehearsals were set to begin). So, enjoy my favourite song Bobby sings in the show.
