Farhia Omar
Minneapolis, Minnesota, UNITED STATES - Farhia Omar is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A native of Toronto, Canada, her reflective paintings are a microcosm of the memories we carry. Farhia began her practice as an artist who would go on to study design. Often utilizing design theory within her fine art, her paintings force the viewer to examine the meaning of color and form in her work. In her most recent collection, 'Anatomy of a Memory', she examines the intersection of memory, the immigrant experience, and what it means to be of two worlds.
FROM THE ARTIST:
Color, line, and form are central to the work I create. This collection utilizes color to evoke and provoke emotion. Line is also intentionally used to be suggestive of imagery central to my own memories and experiences. Memory makes us who we are. An examination of it makes us human. This body of work was created during 2020 and in the height of the pandemic. It was often a struggle to create the space to create. Isolation became a necessity and there was a collective fear and grief that we all suddenly shared. Because of this, the work took on a deeper meaning. A collection of memories in a time that will forever cement itself in memory and history both individually and collectively.
Ms. Omar has exhibited her work in the US, UK, and Canada. She earned a Bachelor in Design from OCAD University and Master of Arts from University of the Arts London.
