24th Annual ART OFF THE FENCE SHOW on Pender Island: THE BEE PROJECT

South Pender Island, BC, Canada - The incredible artists of Pender Island are back, back, back again with some STUNNING work! A few months ago, visual artist and organizer Susan Taylor sent us a gorgeous collection of work after their annual Easter Art Walk (see that post HERE!) was cancelled due to social distancing, and now we are so happy to be able to share some more art from this community of artists and artisans.

This new collection is all about Bees and is just as stunning as the last! Continue reading to see what Susan has to say about these pieces, and the changes they’ve had to make to their annual festival due to social distancing!

From the submission:

The 24th annual Art Off the Fence Show of work by some of the best visual artists on the Pender Islands, like art shows world-wide has been severely disrupted by the pandemic. Our annual show typically attracts one of the biggest crowds of the summer on the Penders - up to 700 people over ten hours on one mid-July weekend.  We’re determined to keep the show alive but it must be different this year. We are working to create an attraction that will not put our community at risk. We've moved from our usual bucolic one acre site on South Pender Island to a twenty-four square foot display case at the Penders’ commercial centre, as well as online.

Starting Wednesday, May 27 with The Bee Project, we’ll have a two week rotating exhibit of our artists’ work in the display case - and on Facebook and Instagram at Art Off the Fence on Pender Island. In part 2 of this year’s show beginning June 27 and running through July 19, we’ll show other new work by the show’s artists.

About The Bee Project:

Each year participating artists choose a theme and each artist creates a piece on that theme. Last year the theme was underwear and we had huge fun with it; this year we’ve chosen to celebrate bees. There are 20,000 species of bees in the world; they pollinate one third of the crops we eat; a few species are

thriving, others are endangered by habitat loss, pollution and climate change. With works created in clay, paper, wood and paint, and photography we hope to remind our viewers' of the importance of bees.

Enjoy exploring these unique pieces, and please visit the official Facebook page or search the hashtag #ArtOffTheFence on Instagram for more information and to see more work from the artists of South Pender Island!
