Passing Storms

Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - Melissa Baron is an artist and educator who’s work has been exhibited at the Skirts Afire Festival in Edmonton, as well as in in the University of Alberta’s instruction collection! Melissa sent us this beautiful work after her exhibit at Metro Cinema’s Garneau Theatre in Edmonton was closed down two weeks early due to social distancing. This collection, entitled ‘Passing Storms’ was also supposed to be featured this April in Glenrose Hospital’s Inspire & Blue Curve art galleries.

From the submission:

These artworks use the metaphor of storms passing to evoke themes of resilience and personal growth. Colourful and expressive skies explore the transformation left in the wake of life's storms. The sheer power of a storm can exhaust our patience and resolve, and can bring us to face with our frailty and terror. And while things may never be the same – trees broken that will not regrow, a crop that is lost, flattened by the rain – something happens when we learn what fear really means. It can break us, but sometimes it can also create us. A storm can teach us not to fear a shadow because we have sat in the infinite dark. It also teaches us that when the sun does rise, its beauty is potent.

So take in these stunning and colourful skies, and visit Melissa Baron’s official website to see more work from this collection!
