Covidexperience
Mono, ON, CANADA - Michele Taras’ work is colourful, whimsical, and imaginative. After facing a number of setbacks and some scary times, she overcame and continued to create, and we are happy to exhibit it here!
From the submission by Michele Taras:
I had applied to the Toronto Rosedale Art Fair, but unfortunately due to Covid-19 this event was canceled.
It was very frustrating for me to see this amazing event cancel, because I am just at the start of my artistic career, and this is really what I need to spring my art onto the stage.
I had been working on some fun pieces full of bright colours. My style is happy and inspired by Art Naive. A lot of my work includes faces which are both feminine and masculine. A lot of my work includes animals because I love animals and find they are a huge part of family life. I also paint a lot of pieces representing friendship between women, because without my girlfriends I am not whole.
Due to my son being high risk, after self-isolating was announced, I had to quarantine myself in my bedroom for 14 days. I had just been to an art show in the Freedom gallery in Toronto where my work was exhibited and was nervous. What if someone who attended the show was Covid-positive yet asymptomatic. I found those 14 days separated from my family and isolating in one room very challenging. At first I could not paint, and then I painted about Covid and the necessity to wear masks.
