Simone Elizabeth Saunders

Simone is an innovative, passionate, and prolific artist, who uses a huge mix of mediums to explore race and gender, as well as the forms and technologies used to create. Her UNBELIEVABLE fibre art ranges from weaving and printmaking to tufting. We are so lucky to be presenting her tufted works in the SHE SERIES explores portraiture of women of colour who are, or were, advocates and leaders within their communities. Tekikki Walker

Tekikki’s work is thought-provoking, complex, and just damn gorgeous. A multimedia artist-designer, her work engages with many forms and practices, from video to collage, to digital painting. She explores matters of race, the body, and history, disrupting ideas with her powerful and dynamic work. She is a powerful and smart creator who has been kind enough to share works from three different series, which you can see here. Also, you can check out more work here:

I wanted to leave Simone and Tekikki largely to their own devices when it came to this collaboration. In many ways, having artists of a similar discipline, one that is generally tactile and largely visual, is a harder task in this format. They have, of course, come up with something brilliant! Coming together on a theme that is inspired by our current times and a poem by Maya Angelou, each is creating a distinct piece of art that exists in conversation with the other. Fascinating conversations are emerging about how best to present them on a digital platform, which is a nourishing and exciting part of this artistic collaboration as well!
