Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - We don’t do a ton of content for children, but Sing Along Tim is stand-out exception that we HAVE to make. He is a much beloved artist in Toronto that you have got to check out with the young folks in your home. Each show features 5 songs: a warm up song, an interactive teaching piece, an original or classic folk song, an upbeat action song, with plenty of repetition, that gets everybody moving, and, to finish, our topical new single “Hand-washing Song”(also an action song).  All these songs have an interactive element to them, and we invite our viewers to join in from their own homes, with movement or singing. 

Throughout the show, we ask quiz questions and encourage our viewers to engage and respond. There is also always a craft activity, thematically linked to what is going on the show, using everyday household items from the recycling bin.  In this way, we are providing ideas, projects and activities, that can be continued after the show and away from the screen. We invite our viewers to send us pictures of themselves making the crafts, or just the crafts themselves. 

With parental permission, we post these photos on the Sing Along Tim Facebook page, and exhibit them in a short gallery section in each live stream, acknowledging  their creators by name, helping  our viewers to feel heard, connected and part of a larger community.

This social aspect has become increasingly important when self isolation is the expectation, and interactions outside the family home have been restricted.  On our website, we have added the words and chords for all the songs we play and we encourage families to print out the songs for themselves in another way of being creative and finding non-screen activities.This show gives us the opportunity to continue to perform live, with each other, to write and co-create new material, to rearrange and adapt old material for the new medium, and to connect with our target audience of young families, also giving them a ways of connecting with us and with each other.
